Teaching Overview

The Cardiff Dermatology Department has been a leading provider of postgraduate dermatology education. We are the international leader in providing e-leaning in dermatology for general practitioners and are one of the major providers of full time taught post graduate courses in dermatology. We are the major provider for dermatology education for general practitioners in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong and students from many other countries around the world take our courses.

Personal Research Overview

Our dermatology Health Service Research/Quality of Life research group have been at the forefront of developing outcome measures for use in clinical dermatology. The measures developed in our department are now used very extensively internationally and in many languages. They include the Dermatology Life Quality Index and Children’s Dermatology Life Quality Index and disease specific measures such as the Psoriasis Disability Index and Cardiff Acne Disability Index. Recent development of this field includes the understanding of the secondary impact of skin disease on patients’ partners and family resulting in the creation of the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index and the Psoriasis Family Index.
